Staff

We are seeking to fill additional positions in our staff. Interested? Please submit an application to pageturnermag@gmail.com with the following information:

Keep in mind that board positions are remote and volunteer Page Turner Magazine’s board is responsible for the supervision and the overall affairs of the magazine. The board ensures that our organization is operated to benefit the literary community and that it adheres to our mission. Any current staff member may also serve as a board member, although a separate application is required.

Page Turner Magazine’s submissions department strives to maintain the integrity of the submissions process while fostering creativity among our staff, throughout Emerson College students, and beyond. We do ask that all contest and standard submissions come from Emerson students through their Emerson emails. We do allow members of the Page Turner Magazine Staff and Board to submit to the magazine as long as they recuse themselves from reviewing their own submissions or submissions from which they could personally identify the author. Before submissions are judged, each author is given a code name by the Submissions Manager. The Submissions Manager then assigns reading to ensure that no one reads their own work or work they could trace back to an author personally known to them.

The short version? Page Turner Magazine wants to keep a level table, which means you’re free to submit content if you’re an Emerson College student. 

  • Communications and Administrative Assistant
    • Assists with the administrative areas of the magazine by reaching out to contacts, school officials, donors, and others 
    • Is responsible for keeping detailed records of financial transactions
    • Reports to the Communications and Administrative Manager
  • Membership Recruitment Manager
    • Develops and implements innovative techniques to recruit volunteers; manages applications and facilitates volunteer relationships
  • General Reader(s)
    • Reads around 12 submissions in a two-week period; rates each submission according to the supplied rubric and discusses stories before selecting final pieces for publication
    • Follows a similar process for the three seasonal flash fiction contests by reading, rating, and discussing around 10–15 submissions

Board

Page Turner Magazine is a genre fiction magazine of and for Emerson students, staff, and alumni. We provide an open medium to both promote and enhance diverse and emerging voices among the genres, as well as preserving and representing the creative conscience in genre fiction and the arts.

We regularly seek volunteer readers who will uphold a standard of wonder, quality, and diversity at Page Turner Magazine. Candidates are required to submit an application to pageturnermag@gmail.com. To apply, send us an email containing the following information:

Please keep in mind that if you are selected as a reader, you may have to read submissions outside of your preferred genre. All staff members may be called upon to read submissions, especially as deadlines draw near. Reader positions are remote and volunteer.

We are seeking interviews and book reviews to add to the Features page at Page Turner Magazine. Have a piece you’d like to share with us? Send us an email at patrick_edinger@emerson.edu containing the following information:

  • Subject: Name – Feature
  • Body:
    • Name
    • Year of graduation from Emerson
    • What book would you like to review or author do you plan to interview?
    • Please share any past experience you have as a reviewer, blogger, or journalist.
    • One or two writing samples (preferably non-fiction pieces like blog posts, articles, or reviews)

If your work is a good fit, we’ll reach out to you with an acceptance letter and a link to our style guide. Page Turner Magazine accepts Features submission on a per-article basis. If you’re interested in joining our staff, please apply to our staff page, here.

Note: Feature writers are still allowed to submit genre fiction pieces to the magazine.

AVAILABLE POSITIONS

  • Features Assistant
    • Works directly with the Features Editor to assist with tasks such as interviews, book reviews, and archives
